What do you do when a parent asks to have their child removed from special education services?

If a parent requests to have their child removed from special education services, then the school will remove the child from services. The request must be in writing. The child will no longer receive the services and supports that were included in his or her IEP. This includes instructional services, support services (such as speech), program accommodations and modifications (such as extra time on tests). The least restrictive environment provisions will also not apply.

If a parent changes their mind after the special education services have been revoked, the evaluation process must be repeated.
